Working with Nancy Goslee Power, we reimagined a nondescript tract house as a sophisticated venue for entertaining. The motor court, designed as a compass rose in tribute to our client's career as a naval architect, sets the tone—guests valet at the gate and walk an allée of Italian cypresses toward cocktails before dinner in the back loggia overlooking the pool. Hundred-year-old olive trees craned over the roof frame views into the canyon through 19th-century Italian church gates, while quieter spaces—a hidden Japanese meditation garden, a stone circle inspired by English lambing pens—offer contemplative counterpoints throughout.
